In a city like London where artists come from all around the world, the competition is huge and breaking into the music industry can seem very challenging. However, because of the large amount of musicians and the amount of talent in one city, there are also plenty of opportunities for emerging artists to showcase themselves. Here are my favourite sessions and showcases for musicians and those who want to explore the newest and most recent music trends in the city.
SOFAR SOUNDS is a community that brings together talented musicians, hosts and the best audiences, creating intimate gigs in secret places all over the world currently in 247 cities including London. To perform at SOFAR SOUNDS you must go through an application process submitting your music to SOFAR SOUNDS team. Many well known artists like James Bay, Lianne La Havas, Leon Bridges, George Ezra and many others have performed there.
ILUVLIVE is the UK's Premier Homegrown Live Music Night, showcasing new talents in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Leicester, Manchester and Reading. This is a great opportunity for young artists to showcase their music and get heard by industry professionals who are continually looking out for the "ones to watch". ILUVLIVE events are always fun to attend and the music is truly soulful, "hot" and the artists are strikingly brilliant. Jessy J and Ed Sheeran have performed at ILUVLIVE at the early stages in their career. Get in touch with ILUVLIVE team to perform at one of their shows.
THE RUBY SINGS
RUBY SINGS is a show where the finest and exceptionally talented UK emerging artists meet to showcase their music, ranging from R&B, Contemporary Jazz to Popular Music, followed by a jam night that usually starts at 11pm after the main show. Ruby Sings is a great music night in an atmospheric Ronnie's Scotts bar in London's Soho neighbourhood. All singers and musicians are welcome to join The Ruby Sings Jam.
RADAR is well known as one of the most exciting industry's favourite nights showcasing the best unsigned and just-signed artists to the UK music industry at Under The Bridge, state-of-the-art venue in Fulham, London. RADAR is sponsored by the music business magazine Music Week and the event has born from a collaboration between Music Week, ILUVLIVE and MusicConnex.
These are only a few of the leading music industry nights in London for emerging artists to attend and there are many more exciting events and gigs to explore in this city. The opportunities in the ever-changing music industry are definitely out there but you have to keep your eyes and ears wide open.
